Reset yourself once in a while…

Based on my own experience this summer, I would like to recommend a 3-day “reset vacation” every year, where you take a short break from life and reset yourself.

First of all be alone if you can. If you really need it, bring alone your boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse of course. But you should definitely be without the kids since the concept of “resetting” and “kids” totally mismatch.

Next , be close to nature. It doesn’t matter if you’re by the sea or at the mountains. The core concept is that you choose a quiet place close to nature,  since nature helps you open up to yourself.

You should pack light as well. Only essential things…You definitely don’t need neither to struggle to carry your luggage nor to waste time selecting clothing on a “reset” vacation. Please don’t get tempted to bring books either. Yes, you really wanted to read that book and never found the time for it but this is a special vacation and you will find plenty of time to read books on other vacations. Read more

It’s been almost a year that I’ve been practicing “Oil Pulling” every morning, as soon as I wake up.

Being an ex-engineer, I approach every method with a bit of skepticism and analyze meticulously before practicing. But this method sounded so simple and logical that I decided to add it to my daily morning routine as soon as I read about it. And I think that I’ll be practicing it until the end (as long as I have enough money to buy coconut oil of course! 🙂 )

Happily ever after?

We all grew up listening to tales ending with similar quotes. As a result, for most of us the concept of happiness is something “big and continuous”.

We all dream of the “happy days” that will eventually come after that stressful period we’re in, hopefully sometime in the near future. And exactly because we all expect something “big” to come, “in the future”, we don’t even notice the “small” things around us that make us happy “now”. But what if happiness in life is built around those small things that we don’t appreciate enough? What if it’s an accumulation of those moments of joy that we’re not even aware of because we’re so much focused on the big cloud of happiness that will finally surround us sometime in the future?

Taking Off Our Masks

This is a poem that I like a lot, because it’s so real. Yes, we all have masks. Masks that we developed starting from our childhood in order to adapt to different situations and environments.

I often hear moms complaining “Oh, my son is a pain in the ass at home but he’s an angel at school “ and I think “In order to be loved and accepted your son is putting his angel mask at school, but of course he gets so tired of wearing it all day long that when he gets home he behaves even worst than he normally is”

As another example, let’s think of how we behave on a first date. Are we totally ourselves? Or are we putting on masks, masks that would impress the other and hide our shadows? And can you feel all the pressure of the weight of these masks on our souls?

Please stop for a minute and observe the people around you in your job, at a cocktail, at a gathering with friends : just so few of them are undisguised and behave transparently. You can just observe most of them trying to appear happier, stronger, more intelligent, more courageous, more caring than he/she really is.
